Beauty: Gelish manicure

I haven't written a nails post in ages so I thought I would share the manicure I had done over the weekend. And yes it was part of the mammoth pre-holiday prep. : )

I booked myself in for a Gelish manicure, I've had it done once before for my wedding and honeymoon and as it worked so well I decided that it would be perfect for a week in Ibiza.

For those of you who haven't heard of Gelish, it is one of the new brands of UV gel nail varnish. The beauty of it is that it isn't like the traditional gel nail extensions, whereby glue and electric files are used. Instead it is simply like getting your nails painted.

Nails are filed, shaped and buffed and a base coat applied, followed by two coats of your chosen colour, after each application your nails are cured under the LED lamp for a couple of minutes. Then the top coat and voila your nails are now 100% dry. Gone are those  awkward moments when you can't move or do anything for 30 minutes for fear of smudging for your newly painted mitts.

The therapist told me that the nails should last 3 weeks with no chipping or peeling, I'm sceptical as my wedding nails lasted about 10-14 days but as long as it lasts for my holiday I'm pretty happy.

I did a bit of research and the manicure usually costs anything from £25-35. I managed to find somewhere round my way charging £20 which I think is an absolute bargain.

The great thing about this kind of manicure is that it doesn't weaken your nail-bed like gel and acrylic extensions do. And it lasts longer than a normal manicure, as those tend to last a couple of days on me, if I'm lucky. I will never have another manicure again!

I love bright colours so I went for a hot pink called Gossip Girl.
